A Note From Our Pastor

Dear Parishioners,

A great part of the mission of Saint Mary’s Parish has been to provide families with the advantage of a Catholic education for the formation of the whole person. For many years our parochial school has given our young boys and girls the experience of authentic witness to the Gospel message and values of Christianity. The presentation of the Catholic Faith within the context of academic excellence is a magnificent opportunity for every child to gain a wonderful knowledge and appreciation of our Loving God and His providential care of each and everyone of us.

We are very blessed with a truly devoted faculty and staff here at Saint Mary’s School, under the outstanding leadership of a most dedicated principal. Hopefully we will always have the resources to maintain the quality and exceptional results of our school through the continued support of our Faith Community. Today, we are challenged with the ever-rising cost of Catholic Education which, unfortunately, has become over and beyond the means of some of our families.

To ensure the future of our parochial school and accessibility for all students desiring a Catholic Education, Saint Mary’s Parish and School offers opportunities that welcome your generous support. In this website you should find these ongoing opportunities throughout the year.

The generosity and commitment of countless parishioners and friends have made it possible for Saint Mary’s Parochial School to graduate spiritually and academically exceptional students for many years. We have every reason to continue celebrating such a record of success. May we turn to you and ask you to open your heart to considering an appropriate level of support to this vital mission of Saint Mary’s Parish. May God bless you for all your caring service.

Sincerely Yours In Christ,

Reverend Monsignor Robert G. Amey

Can you solve "Einstein’s Riddle"? - Dan Van der Vieren

Before he turned physics upside down, a young Albert Einstein supposedly showed off his genius by devising a complex riddle involving a stolen exotic fish and a long list of suspects. Can you resist tackling a brain teaser written by one of the smartest people in history? Dan Van der Vieren shows how.

Academics

Saint Mary's School academic curriculum follows the guidelines and academic standards provided by the Archdiocese of Washington Catholic Schools Office. The school is designed for students from Preschool through eighth grade. Since students enter school with a wide range of skills, each student is motivated to explore and develop his/her skills and talents in a variety of academic and extracurricular programs.

Our curriculum focuses on the development of the whole child. The classes are self-contained in kindergarten through third grade. Departmentalization begins in the fourth grade and continues through eighth grade.

Classes are taught in a loving, supportive, Christian environment. There is a strong emphasis on faith development, and Catholic identity is visible throughout the school. Students are encouraged to learn about and practice the Catholic faith and to live this faith through community service and outreach programs.

Teachers use formal and informal assessments at all grade levels. The Scantron Performance Standardized Assessment is used in Kindergarten through Eighth grade and is administered three times a year (beginning of the year, midyear, and end of the year).

Writing portfolios are integrated into the language arts curriculum at all grade levels, allowing students to monitor their progress in writing each year.

Welcome To St. Mary's School

St. Mary's is a Great Place to Grow...

Since 1951 we have been forming responsible, faith-filled children through a rigorous curriculum that marries faith, academics and service. The greatest testament to our mission of educating the whole child is the fact that so many alumni return to the halls of St. Mary’s School to educate their children. We are expanding every day through an array of extracurricular opportunities, an extended preschool with all-day hours and ongoing training for staff and administrators.
